Health Documentaries
During recent years multiple documentaries have emerged with the purpose of informing the public about certain health-related topics. In 2011 the documentary "Forks Over Knives" was released, raising awareness about food products and how current dietary habits are negatively impacting population health, particularly in the Western hemisphere. Similarly, in 2017, another documentary was released, titled "What the Health" and discussed the same topic. But recently I came across a documentary that discussed a different health-related topic: medical devices. The documentary is titled "The Bleeding Edge" and was released in 2018.
Every year medical device companies in the U.S. alone make over $85 billion a year, which makes them one of the most profitable businesses of the U.S. healthcare industry. While the implantation and usage of certain medical devices can be life-saving, for others the risks outweigh the benefits. Whatever the case may be; it is certainly worth taking a closer look.
